One day, as Mila and her girlfriend, Erin, are returning to their home, Mila catches a glimpse of Violet, a dark but familiar stranger, in her car's rear view mirror.
Like a resentful child, Mila tries to ignore Violet in the hope that she will leave her and Erin alone.
But when Violet wakes Mila in the middle of the night, Mila must confront her.
Violet insists that Mila's relationship with Erin is dangerous, but Mila resists her.
Their argument in the kitchen wakes Erin, who enters the room but cannot see or hear Violet.
Realizing that Mila is hiding something, Erin becomes upset, and when Mila tries to explain, Violet reacts angrily and threatens to hurt Erin.
As the conversation escalates and Violet brandishes a knife, Mila shoves Erin away from Violet.
Erin hits her head and falls.
Hurt and confused, she runs back to her bedroom and bursts into tears.
Violet in nowhere to be seen.
Realizing what she has done, Mila stands silent for several moments, then she abruptly leaves the house.
Erin calls Mila's cell phone the next morning, begging her to return.
Mila listens to the message in her parked car.
She apologizes to someone in the passenger seat and promises never to act that way again.
The person in the seat next to her is not Erin, but Violet.
Violet forgives Mila and says that she's safe now, and that's all that matters.
Mila starts her car, which is pulled over on the side of an empty road, and she and Violet drive down the road out of sight.
