“Passion and Virtue” is an adaptation based on Gustave Flaubert’s Passion et Vertu which tells the story of Mazza, a married middle-aged woman who is acquainted with Ernest, a charming young chemist, whose biggest amusement is to seduce married women.
They maintain an intense relationship, however, in face of her dangerous and brutal behavior, Ernest fears for his reputation.
He leaves her by accepting a proposal to work in Brazil but she decides to follow him.
Still she had to get rid of her family.
After killing her last child, she receives a letter with information of Ernest's recent marriage to a rich farmer's daughter.
Devastated by his words, she kills herself.
