An unnamed narrator recalls the life of his mother who worked in a mythical factory which provided mirrors to mermaids, murderers, fairytale queens and European aristocrats.
After the factory is destroyed by fire, the mother wanders aimlessly around Europe finally giving philosophical guidance to Jean Paul Sartre.
