NUMBSKULL Two old men, the curse of William Shakespeare and a talking beetle. NUMBSKULL Dark, trippy and distinctive, this B&W movie, stylishly directed by John Humphreys, weaves a haunting tale of dysfunctional ageing, funny, tense and touching.

With a magic realism, it screws time probing the mythical underbelly of paranoia and psychosis. Forty years ago Spud and Nev stole Shakespeare's cursed skull.

The two old men agree to take the skull back to its resting place, with the encouragement of the ‘Dark Lady’ (a talking beetle).

Unfortunately, the curse of Shakespeare's skull still lives on as the two find out as their dark and trippy journey becomes a living nightmare. 'Original, thoughtful, elegiac, haunting and touching.

With exquisitely judged performances the film's skilfully sustained mood will stay with me for quite some time'. Mark Radcliffe BBC Broadcaster
