Aijo, which means “love” in Japanese, is the name of a short, mostly documentary, film created as part of a series that explores basic human needs and the impact on those who are denied them.

Consisting primarily of street interviews with addicts, the elderly, and homeless people, asking them about love, it has proven effective as a stimulus/discussion tool for group psychotherapy.

What at first seems just a pastiche of rambling comments ultimately challenges the viewing audience with a provocative starting point for introspection and group interchange on topics such as loneliness, depression, trauma, suicide, and abuse.

Additionally, the sub-theme of spirituality and its connection to love is examined through the interviews, highlighting the dichotomy of the varied forms in which love can manifest in our lives.
