Synnøve seems to have it all: a well-paid job, a boyfriend with things going for him, and a nice apartment.

But the truth of the matter is that she is utterly lonely, stagnated in a destructive relationship.

She has come to feel increasingly desperate, and one day she decides to run away from her boyfriend and leave Oslo behind.

Her only option is to go Troms, in the North of Norway, where she is originally from.
