Tit For Tat

Michael and Karen are, to put it mildly, in a rough patch.

They never talk, never share, never...

    well, you know.

It’s that awkward period in a long-term relationship where no one is making any real commitments, and both are wondering whether the other is all in or stepping out but not daring to make the first move lest they give away their positions in the game.

And, frankly, that’s what it all is to them: a game, a competition, to be won or lost by one or the other but not both.

So when Michael and Karen both show up to the same job interview (of course neither told the other they were out of work), the game is on again since only one position is open at the prestigious Dunning/Kruger advertising firm.

It seems Michael and Karen have only two choices: behave civilly and maturely, wishing each other all the luck a supportive significant other can offer in such a difficult situation or dirty, underhanded sabotage.

Who will triumph? Will it be Michael or Karen who is able to effectively mess up the other without looking petty, lessening his or her chances of getting the position? Will either get the position, or will it go to one of the other applicants, like the sleazy Calvin? What will become of their relationship when all is said and done, and will they finally realize which “game” is more important to “win?”
